Write Your Story Writing Workshop

She Climbs Mountains is excited to offer Write Your Story, a virtual writing workshop for motherless daughters facilitated by SCM Founder, Christine Meyer.

Our community believes in the power of story sharing and that by sharing your story, you not only open yourself to healing, but you give the gift of healing to others as well. This workshop will offer attendees an opportunity to explore their loss, grief, and love through writing their stories in a safe community that will give space to healing, growth, and connection with others.

Beginning Saturday, October 12, we will meet every other week from 9:30-11am CST for 5 weeks.

Schedule of Topics:

  • October 12: Stepping Into Story-Sharing

  • October 26: Exploring My Mother’s Life

  • November 9: Exploring My Mother’s Death

  • November 23: The Before & After

  • December 7: Walking With My Grief

Open to writers of all levels and women (ages 19+) who have experienced their loss 2 or more years ago, we will explore our loss, grief, and love as motherless daughters through prompts, free writing, and workshopping. Attendees will be encouraged to play with poetry, prose, short stories, or the start of a bigger piece (memoir or novel), as well as aspects of grief specific to them (i.e., early loss, mothering, secondary losses, etc.). Brief “homework” assignments will be given each session as a way to stay engaged in the journey of story-sharing through writing and to potentially share/workshop in the following class.

$125 per person for the 5-week workshop

Love and Loss: Making it Matter

Love and Loss: Making it Matter

She Climbs Mountains is thrilled to offer Love and Loss: Making it Matter, a 5-week virtual writing workshop for motherless daughters with celebrated author, Sarah Conover.

  • Saturdays, January 13 to February 10, 10am to Noon CST* (*January 13 will be 10am-12:30pm CST)

Just as our hearts want to cultivate wisdom, our writing selves long to speak what matters most. There is so much to celebrate in a life's journey and also inevitable loss. Although profound grief has a life of its own - sometimes hidden, sometimes numb, sometimes raw and painful - a grief story is always a love story. Writing accesses a part of the brain that is offline in our day-to-day activities, but which can allow grief to discover its voice, be better understood and metabolized in our lives. Your words are the exact size of the hole in somebody else’s heart that they need to hear.

Listening carefully to our inner life and clarifying what is most meaningful is at the heart of good writing. Both lead to a greater intimacy with ourselves and a courageous leaping into the mysteries of facing love and loss. Our time together will be a place for intimacy, insight, and compassion while respecting individuals' safety and privacy. Together we'll use various methods to bring forth ideas, themes, and stories from your life history to mine for writing during this class and in the future. We'll also learn a bit about crafting our words to make them matter and meaningfully connect to others.

Together, with other motherless daughters, we will:

  • Listen deeply to ourselves

  • Leap into the discoveries offered by writing

  • Listen deeply to others

  • Discern - finding the gems

  • Craft our words to make them matter

  • Share our learnings and wisdom

We will use inventive prompts, free writes, mentor texts, and supportive workshopping to facilitate discussion, amplify meaning, and explore writing’s ability to transform one’s relationship to grief and loss.

$125 per person for the 5-week workshop

Additional details:

CLASS ONE: Settling in and Mapping the Landscape

CLASS TWO: Making Us Care

CLASS THREE: Blessing the World: The Sensory Palette

CLASS FOUR: The Orphan’s Power: Fearlessness and Wisdom

CLASS FIVE: The Sanctuary of Writing

Expectations:

Classes scaffold one upon the next, as does trust in ourselves and our fellow writers. Please try your best not to miss our time together! We may try to make a recording of each class available for a limited time but realize that’s not nearly as rewarding as having your work be part of the discussion.

There will be homework, but not necessarily a lot (maximum 1 ½ pages double-spaced)! Even if you can only manage a few paragraphs due to a busy week, we will all eagerly anticipate each other’s writings and discoveries.

Bittersweet: Finding the Language for Loss and Love

She Climbs Mountains is thrilled to partner with celebrated author, Sarah Conover, for a 2 1/2-hour writing workshop addressing the tender terrain of grief. Grief has a life of its own - sometimes hidden, sometimes numb, sometimes raw and painful. Writing uses a part of the brain that is offline in our day-to-day activities, but which can allow grief to discover its own poignant voice, be better understood and metabolized in our lives. Sarah will provide prompts to generate your words while providing a safe space for an exploration of writing’s ability to transform your relationship to loss. A grief story is a love story, and your words are the exact size of the hole in somebody else’s heart that they need to hear.

Writers of all levels are invited to join us for a morning of exploration and connection. This gathering is open to adult motherless daughters (ages 19+).
