Love and Loss: Making it Matter

Love and Loss: Making it Matter

She Climbs Mountains is thrilled to offer Love and Loss: Making it Matter, a 5-week virtual writing workshop for motherless daughters with celebrated author, Sarah Conover.

  • Saturdays, January 13 to February 10, 10am to Noon CST* (*January 13 will be 10am-12:30pm CST)

Just as our hearts want to cultivate wisdom, our writing selves long to speak what matters most. There is so much to celebrate in a life's journey and also inevitable loss. Although profound grief has a life of its own - sometimes hidden, sometimes numb, sometimes raw and painful - a grief story is always a love story. Writing accesses a part of the brain that is offline in our day-to-day activities, but which can allow grief to discover its voice, be better understood and metabolized in our lives. Your words are the exact size of the hole in somebody else’s heart that they need to hear.

Listening carefully to our inner life and clarifying what is most meaningful is at the heart of good writing. Both lead to a greater intimacy with ourselves and a courageous leaping into the mysteries of facing love and loss. Our time together will be a place for intimacy, insight, and compassion while respecting individuals' safety and privacy. Together we'll use various methods to bring forth ideas, themes, and stories from your life history to mine for writing during this class and in the future. We'll also learn a bit about crafting our words to make them matter and meaningfully connect to others.

Together, with other motherless daughters, we will:

  • Listen deeply to ourselves

  • Leap into the discoveries offered by writing

  • Listen deeply to others

  • Discern - finding the gems

  • Craft our words to make them matter

  • Share our learnings and wisdom

We will use inventive prompts, free writes, mentor texts, and supportive workshopping to facilitate discussion, amplify meaning, and explore writing’s ability to transform one’s relationship to grief and loss.

$125 per person for the 5-week workshop

Register for the workshop!

Limited scholarships available. Please contact christine@sheclimbsmountains.org for further information.

Additional details:

CLASS ONE: Settling in and Mapping the Landscape

CLASS TWO: Making Us Care

CLASS THREE: Blessing the World: The Sensory Palette

CLASS FOUR: The Orphan’s Power: Fearlessness and Wisdom

CLASS FIVE: The Sanctuary of Writing

Expectations:

Classes scaffold one upon the next, as does trust in ourselves and our fellow writers. Please try your best not to miss our time together! We may try to make a recording of each class available for a limited time but realize that’s not nearly as rewarding as having your work be part of the discussion.

There will be homework, but not necessarily a lot (maximum 1 ½ pages double-spaced)! Even if you can only manage a few paragraphs due to a busy week, we will all eagerly anticipate each other’s writings and discoveries.

Twin Cities Trapeze Workshop with Dr. Sherry Walling!

Welcome to the Flying Trapeze! First time She Climbs Mountains students are introduced to the equipment and facilities and given a quick overview of safety requirements. Next you will be taught a ‘knee hang’ position to practice on our low trapeze bar. Then it’s up the ladder to the Trapeze Rig. One instructor remains with you on the Trapeze Rig, another pulls the safety lines and the third remains on the ground offering corrections/encouragement/assistance as needed.

During the final portion of the class, the third instructor becomes the "Catcher" and climbs onto the Rig to catch the students as you perform your trick. This is the final step of the first day and most people consider it the highlight.

Following trapeze, we will join in a discussion with Dr. Sherry Walling regarding grief, loss, and how movement can benefit us on our healing journey. Dr. Walling is clinical psychologist, speaker, podcaster, mental health advocate, and the author of Touching Two Worlds: A Guide for Finding Hope in the Landscape of Loss.

Best attire is something you feel comfortable moving in, and as we'll be working with safety equipment long pants and shirts that cover the midriff are strongly recommended. A light snack and drinks will be provided. All participants must complete this waiver prior to the event date.

$75 per person for the 2-hour workshop; each participant will receive a copy of Dr. Sherry Walling’s book, Touching Two Worlds

Create Your Vision for 2021 – Your Life, Your Way with Nea Clare

We are SO excited to partner with the amazing Nea Clare for her upcoming workshop “Create Your Vision for 2021 – Your Life, Your Way” on Saturday, January 9, 9:30am-1pm CST.

AND...Nea is offering a special discount for our community!

Workshop description:

Over the past 12 months, we have been on a journey of self-discovery. We have been challenged, felt overwhelmed, experienced disappointments. These challenges have been hard, but they have also given each one of us new perspective on what really matters and helped to clarify who we want to be in the world.

During this workshop, we will have the opportunity to review and celebrate all of the wonderful accomplishments of 2020. We will use that energy and focus to be our inspiration to create a Vision for our 2021 and ensure we LOVE IT!

You will chart your course for the year ahead and be given some great navigational tips to help you stay the course.

Cultivating Resiliency Through Writing: A Writing Workshop for the Women of SCM

She Climbs Mountains is excited to partner with author Wendy Brown-Báez for a morning of cultivating resiliency through writing.

Right now we are experiencing profound personal transformation, as well as paradigm shifts in the world. How can we rise above life's challenges when we feel overwhelmed? How can we strengthen our resiliency? Wendy will share wisdom from her own journey of healing. We will discuss ways to nourish our souls and raise our vibration. We’ll practice intuitive writing to access our inner guidance and creative insight to deepen our courage, relieve stress, and heal.

Writers of all levels are invited to join us for a morning of exploration and connection. This gathering is open to adult motherless daughters (ages 19+).

$35 per person - or - $55 per person (includes SCM Journal + shipping)
